The City of Wichita is facing a $3.8 million budget deficit for 2014-2015.

Staff proposed adjustments to the preliminary budget will reduce the deficit to approximately $1.1 million. Proposed cuts include increasing court costs, restructuring some departments, and saving money through water conservation methods.

Additional options to balance the General Fund include discussions about Sister Cities funding, closing Orchard Library, and eliminating the Wichita Police Department's Air Patrol and Mounted Unit.

The City Manager will present the proposed 2014 Annual Operating Budget on July 16.

The City Council will have a formal hearing and adoption of the 2014 Annual Operating Budget on August 13.
