A child remains hospitalized after a home accident near Oaklawn.
It happened in the 4900 block of S. Cedardale around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Dispatchers said the 4-year-old girl was injured after a television fell on top of her. Police said the girl's parents were in another room when they heard a crash. A large television that had been on top of a dresser fell on the girl.
Investigators with the Exploited and Missing Children's Unit said it appears the child had been climbing on the dresser.
The child was taken to Wesley Medical Center with serious head injuries. Officials said she remains listed in critical, but stable condition.
The EMCU was called to investigate because of the child’s condition but believe it was an accident.
"We believe it was an accident where the child somehow was messing around. In her bedroom was a large older model 27" television. The estimated weight between 70 and 80 pounds," said Sgt. Kevin Bradford with EMCU.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported more than 22,000 children in the United States are injured every year when televisions or furniture fall on top of them.
