MEDICINE LODGE, Kan.--- Nearly four months after an accident in Medicine Lodge, charges have been filed against the driver who hit a woman on a bicycle.
Police records showed 50-year-old Wade Dirks of Nashville hit 25-year-old Elisabeth 'Liz' Edwards on April 21st.
Edwards was riding her bicycle on Isabel Road when she was struck from behind by Dirks' pickup truck.
"We're so focused on her getting better. We're not dwelling on that. She's been through a lot," said Brett Edwards, husband.
Edwards was training for a triathlon before the accident. Since then, she has been through numerous surgeries and was released from the hospital less than a month ago.
"It's not like it was before. Now, she can't run. At this point, it's hard to go up a step," said her husband.
Dirks was charged with one count of aggravated battery and one count of reckless driving. He will make a first court appearance in Barber County on September 11th.
A fundraiser to help the Edwards family continues at the Citizens Bank of Kansas. You can still ask to donate to "The Liz Edwards Love & Healing Fund" at any of their locations. For more information, contact the Medicine Lodge branch by calling (620) 886-5686.
