Alan Klein and his family were eager to meet Janet Crandall today. She was one of two off-duty nurses who helped saved his life last month.

"Nothing but the highest regards for them. The fact that they accepted responsibility to their craft and stopped and did their job," said Alan.

On May 12th, Alan and his daughter rode their bikes in the "Tour de Cure" ride to benefit the American Diabetes Association. But the 40-mile ride was cut short when Alan suffered a cardiac arrest.

"I didn't remember the race. I didn't remember really having the wreck or anything," said Alan. "Other than being pretty fortunate where it happened at and when it did."

About five miles from the start of the course, Alan hit the ground. It was then that Janet and another off-duty nurse named Jill used their life saving skills to give him CPR.

"I was in the right place, at the right time. I'm thankful that God's given me this strength to handle emergency situations in the way that I can," said Janet.

Both nurses did not think Alan would make it after they were unable to get a pulse. They said it was a miracle that Alan is alive.

"He left in the ambulance that day, the other nurse and I just kind of held on to each other. We just shook our head. We said, 'We did the best we could do,'" she said.

Alan said he will forever be grateful for the two strangers who chose to save his life.

"I'm a testimony that people do that. People do care about people they don't know," said Alan.

Alan will be released from the Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital on Tuesday.

Janet will be riding in the "Bike Across Kansas" ride this week. She hopes this does not happen again but said she is ready to help another stranger if it does.
