A Wichita Emergency Department doctor testified in federal court that Dr. Stephen Schneider practices were excessive and extreme.

Dr. Brian Katan took the stand in the trial of Doctor Stephen Schneider and Linda Schneider. The two are linked to the deaths of 34 of their patients. The couple operated the Schneider Medical Clinic in Haysville from 2002-2007.

Katan told the jury that over the years he treated numerous Schneider patients in the Via Christi emergency room. He said many of them came in wanting more pain medicine. He also testified that after the clinic closed, he had several of Schneider's patients come to the ER and tell the doctor that they were addicted to pain medicines and they needed treatment.

Over the years, more than 50 of Schneider's patients died, most from mixed drug overdoses. When asked if those patients were his, Dr. Katan said, "I would stop doing medicine and go live on an island."

The trial is expected to last two to three months.
