A woman injured in a deadly propane blast is improving. Doctors listed 45-year-old Toni Brothers in fair condition.
Emergency crews recovered a body at the site of an explosion and fire near the Winfield City Lake Tuesday. The Cowley County Sheriff said the body of 54 year-old Randy Porter of Derby was found inside the home.
Investigators believe the explosion was caused by a propane leak, shortly before 1:00 p.m. The scene is near 131st and 72nd Road.
Sheriff Bob Odell said Brothers was in the process of moving into the rental home. The owner of the home tells KAKE News she was aware of a propane leak, but she thought it was fixed.
Experts say propane leaks can be extremely dangerous. The best way to detect a leak is by it's unpleasant odor. If you smell a leak, extinguish all open flames and get out of the house immediately. Don't touch electrical switches or appliances and call your propane dealer immediately.
The State Fire Marshal is now investigating the explosion.
