The Blacktop Nationals is coming to Wichita, and city leaders hope it will bring a boost to the local economy. But, the event will pose problems for bus riders who will cope with temporary transit route changes, detours and delays.

The event will feature classic cars, and the latest creations. Ford is sponsoring the event, and will display its new 2012 Mustang Boss 302. The event will also include everything from an auction to drag racing. Organizers hope it will bring in around 100,000 visitors.

"What we have done is looked around the country to different car shows and we're creating the best of the best here," said Blacktop Nationals President Rick Nuckolls.

"People are going to recognize that we have an event that makes it worthwhile to visit us here in the air capital," said Go Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau Spokesman Ken Vandruff.

During the Black Top Nationals event, several Wichita Transit bus routes will change. Thursday, August 26 through Sunday, August 29th four bus routes and two Q-Line routes will be affected.

Specific details about routes, time points and the direction of travel are included on the Transit website (visit www.wichita.gov and click on the Transit link).

Riders who use public transit for their day-to-day transportation should consult the website, review the bulletin board inside the Transit Center or contact the information line (265-7221) for updates. The website includes changes by date and route, making it easier for riders to make adjustments.

Riders are encouraged to plan ahead for the next few days and make travel plans to allow for delays, detours and an increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the downtown area.
