The City of Wichita started to clean up after walkways and pathways were underwater near the Arkansas River.
"When it receded, there was a lot of mud and junk on the sidewalks. So, nice to see them cleaning up," said Trevor Thiessen, who enjoys walking in downtown Wichita.
The City's Park and Recreation director has crews using hoses to get rid of mud and front loaders to move aside dirt and debris. Next, they plan to pick up trash that accumulated on the banks of the river.
"It is a long task. It's not an easy task," said Doug Kupper, director. "This time around the water stayed up pretty high and we've got quite a bit of mud deposited on the bikepaths."
Crew will focus on the downtown area and then work out from there. They expect to have most of the downtown area cleaned up by the weekend.
"It's nice to see them taking care of the city and making sure everybody has clean places to go," said Thiessen.
