Homeowners in a west Wichita subdivision are calling for a traffic signal to be put in when a by-pass is built to connect I-235 to 13th street over the big ditch.
The homeowners live in the Spinnaker Cove sub-division near where the bridge will be built. Residents said they believe that it will be dangerous to get in and out of the neighborhood once the by-pass is finished.
"We see a need for a stoplight, so our residents aren't put at risk when the traffic flow is so heavy," Larry Heeren said.
City engineers said currently the traffic count isn't high enough to warrant a traffic light, but if the county will move the entrance to the Sedgwick County Park directly across from Spinnaker Cove's entrance it may work.
County officials have agreed to move the entrance, if the city pays for the project.
Construction on the by-pass is expected to begin next summer.
