A Valley Center girl who was diagnosed with leukemia just over a year ago has lost her battle with the disease. Paxten Pearson died on Sunday just shy of her second birthday.

The community rallied around Paxten. They started the group "Prayers for Paxten," which raised money for treatment and offered encouragement and support to Paxten and her family.

On Tuesday, the Valley Center community held an event to celebrate Paxten's life. They met in a park and launched pink and blue balloons in her honor.

"As a community, it has just brought so many people together. I'm born and raised from Valley Center and it's really amazing how this community has pulled together for this little girl and this family," said Anne Carter-Hainlen, owner of Anne's Attic.

Friends continue selling orange bracelets and decals that say "Prayers for Paxten" at Anne's Attic in Valley Center.

A Celebration Service will be held on Feb. 4th at 10:30 a.m. at Central Christian Church.
