This week, Sedgwick County Treasurer Ron Estes began mailing more than 260,000 2010 tax bills to the citizens of Sedgwick County.
Real, personal, utility and special assessments totaling more than $520 million will be billed for the various taxing authorities, including school districts, cities, townships and the county.
State statute requires tax bills to be mailed by December 15; however, Sedgwick County normally mails the bills during the last 2 weeks of November.
This year, due to technology upgrades, the county implemented a new system, so the bills will look slightly different than last year and arrive during the first week of December. The new system also helped the treasurer's office identify opportunities to better streamline next year's statements.
The payment deadline for the first half is December 20, 2010.
Taxes may be paid online by visiting the Sedgwick County Treasurer's website at www.sedgwickcounty.org.
Select the "Property Appraisal/Tax Information and Payment System" option and use a MasterCard, VISA or Discover card to pay your taxes.
The tax deadline for second-half taxes is May 10, 2011.
Assistance for taxpayers eligible for the homestead property tax refund is available by calling the Sedgwick County Clerk at 316-660-9222.
