More than half of all vehicle fatalities in Wichita this year have been related to driving under the influence. There have been 25 vehicle fatalities in Wichita, 14 were DUI related.
Area high school students tied red ribbons on student and faculty vehicles to help increase awareness about drunk driving during the holiday season. This was part of the the activities planned for the third annual Holiday Drive for DUI Victims.
Wichita Police Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, and Kansas Highway Patrol have joined forces to combat drunk drivers between Thanksgiving and New Years Day.
"DUIs are 100 percent preventable and alcohol related incidents are preventable by simply not getting behind the wheel," said Col. Mike Stover, Sedgwick County Under Sheriff.
