The Wichita State men's basketball team, along with coaches, school administrators, and cheering squad, loaded a charter plane on their way to Portland, Oregon.
The university's president and first lady, Don and Shirley Beggs, joined the team. This is something that the Beggs didn't get to do back in 2006 when the Shockers went to the first round in the NCAA tournament.
"It's an exciting time. I didn't get to go [in 2006]. This is a new experience for me and total excitement for a great group of young men," said President Beggs.
One by one, university staff members loaded the bus to cheer on the Shockers.
The players and coaches looked calm and focused to take on their opponent in just days.
"I'm more anxious than excited. It's the first time but at the same time, it's still business. We want to come back with two wins," said David Kyles, WSU basketball player #24.
"We played them last year in a good rivalry match up, so it's just exciting just to be in the tournament, really," said Ben Smith, WSU basketball player #20.
The fan charter will leave on Thursday and will arrive in time for the game against Virginia Commonwealth University.
The game will be on CBS at 6:15 p.m. CST.
