Local runners are returning back to Wichita from Boston today.
"No place is perfectly safe but you kind of count your blessings when you get back here," said Jack Marvin, runner.
Marvin ran in the Boston Marathon and was near the scene of the explosions. He saw the plume of smoke after the first explosion and heard the second explosion just seconds after the first.
"The crowd just started to panic," he said. "Everybody just left as quickly as they could because we just looked up about 400 yards and there was just chaos."
Marvin was thankful that his wife, Lisa, was back in the hotel room when the events unfolded.
This was Marvin's sixth time participating in the event.
"You just don't expect something like that to happen," he said. "We were all in a state of disbelief."
