A couple woke up to a man breaking into their home through their bedroom window Monday morning.
After the homeowner confronted the intruder outside, the intruder grabbed a horseshoe from the yard and the homeowner grabbed tree trimming shears.
"Once he picks up the horseshoe and starts charging me with it, I go in to the house and shut the door and I immediately pick up the scissors,” victim Daniel Thomas said.
Thomas didn't just grab scissors, he grabbed tree trimming shears but the man still followed him inside.
“Once the door opened, I started swinging. I don't know if I hit him or what but he turned around and the screen door didn’t open and he went through everything,” Thomas said.
Thomas was able to hold the man down until police arrived. They went through the intruder's pockets and found a few things he stole from the yard. They also found a knife. It was in the man's pocket the entire fight.
“It could have gone totally different, totally different and that's what shook us the most,” Thomas said.
The couple moved to a new apartment within 24 hours of the break-in. Now, they say they feel happier and safer.
The man who broke into the home was arrested on aggravated burglary and aggravated assault charges.
The couple also had friends and family staying with them that night- including an infant. Nobody was hurt.
