Fans are supporting the Shockers with their wallets and with their creativity this week.
"It seems like the whole city of Wichita is excited," said Maggie Porter.
It was the excitement of the Wichita State University men's basketball team winning over Gonzaga on Saturday that inspired an alumnus to write a song.
Dan Nelson wrote the song called "Don't Mess With the Shockers" and his friend, Troy Schremmer, sang and played the guitar. Both men graduated from the university and now have careers in Chicago and New York City.
"That's what the Shockers do. They make you do creative and interesting things just because you get so excited about it," said Nelson. "Anything that brings people together, over this song, I think, is great."
Fans are also opening up their wallets and buying Shocker gear.
"As fast as we can put them out, we're selling them out. It makes us feel excited. It's fun. It's good for business and it's a good time of the year," said Kevin Konda, director of the WSU Bookstore.
The Shockers (28-8) take on No. 13 seed La Salle on Thursday night in Los Angeles, and then would get sixth-seeded Arizona or No. 2 seed Ohio State for a spot in Atlanta.
The game will be televised on TBS at 9:17 p.m. CST.
