Recent layoffs at Wichita businesses have created opportunities for other companies looking to hire displaced workers.
More than 50 companies from difference backgrounds attended the Career Quest Expo in East Wichita Tuesday. Organizers said businesses were anxious to talk to people looking to make a career change.
“The announced layoffs has caused more companies to come with anticipation of talking to some of the people that are looking for opportunities,” said Bob Loudermilk, Quantum Expositions founder.
Some of the available positions will require employees to relocate, however. But that did not stop job seekers.
“I have a little girl so if I had to move to find work, I would,” Kayla Callaway said.
Other job seekers said the event gave them an opportunity to get up close and personal with potential employers.
“It’s kind of difficult going to businesses trying to do online stuff,” Bronson Garcia said. “There hasn’t been really much of a success.”
The next Quantum Career Expo is scheduled for April.
