This morning the Wichita City Council voted to form a new Downtown Revitalization Steering Council.
The idea is to hold a series of meetings to get the public's input and ideas on how to move forward with the future of the Downtown area.
"Wichitans need to determine our future by coming together to hope and to dream, deciding our next steps in this exciting initiative, and addressing the very heart of what makes us US," said Mayor Carl Brewer.
The council will be broken down into three Advisory Teams. One will engage the businesses, another will engage the city's groups and associations and the third engaging neighborhoods, the faith community and the arts.
The first meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. on March 31 in the first floor Board Room at City Hall.
The Business Advisory team will meet at 11 a.m. on April 6 in the boardroom at the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce.
The Association Advisory team will meet at 3:30 p.m. on April 13 in the boardroom at the Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The Friends of Downtown team will meet 5:30 p.m. on April 14 at CityArts.
Future public meetings will be announced later.
"We want residents to participate in this engagement process and help share the next phase of downtown revitalization. More details and decisions will come after we hear more from the people," said Brewer.
