Rice County Attorney Scott McPherson says he has filed charges against a Lyons girl who reportedly faked her own kidnapping.

Investigators spent two days searching for 14-year-old Layla Lee in late September and early October. She eventually returned to her home, telling authorities she had been kidnapped at gun-point and held against her will.

Investigators vigorously pursued the case -- only to determine it was all made up.

Police say Lee eventually admitted the story wasn't true.

McPherson says he reviewed all the evidence in the case, and decided it was appropriate to charge Lee as a juvenile with two misdemeanors.

The formal complaint was filed November 20th. McPherson charges Lee with falsely reporting a crime and obstructing official duty. The Rice County Clerk's Office says she will make her first appearance in court on Dec. 22.

Because Lee is charged as a minor and with misdemeanors, McPherson says she may be allowed to stay in the custody of her parents if convicted. He says she could have the charges expunged from her record in the future.
