State officials have issued an Emergency Order of Suspension against the Learn and Grow Depot Child Care center in Abilene, and investigators say some of the evidence came from the center's web cam.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued the order against Learn and Grown Depot Child Development Center at 1003 N. Brady.

Investigators reviewed videos from the web cam over a two week period. Investigators reported seeing disturbing images, including;

  • Toddler-aged children being tied to chairs during meals;

  • A child, still tied to the chair, being shoved and flung against a wall;

  • A teacher putting her leg over a child to keep the child on a cot at nap time.

  • A child "pinned under the sink" because she would not be quiet during nap time.

    The child care operators have 15 days to request a hearing on the suspension.

    You can check to see if your child's day care has been subject of state action. You can can call KDHE's Child Care Licensing and Registration office at (785) 296-1270 or e-mail to cclr@kdhe.state.ks.us. You must provide the name of the facility and an address.
