A long-time county commissioner hopes to defend his seat against a political newcomer.
At Mike's Steakhouse, manager Craig Gabel greets customers while waiting for election results to come in. His supporters will be here tonight with him.
"I'm good win or lose. It's alright to me I didn't need another job but I wanted to make some changes," said Gabel.
A long-time local businessman, Gabel is running in part because he's against the county's use of financial incentives for business and he wants to cut property taxes.
It could be an interesting election against sitting county commissioner Tim Norton who has been on the bench for eight years and was formerly the Haysville mayor.
He did not return calls for an interview, but he is known for his work on the new downtown arena, specifically solving parking issues, and he also supported the Aviation Tech Center being built out at Jabara Airport.
His watch party will be in Haysville tonight.
