Last year, the City of Wichita collected less revenue from traffic fines and tickets.
The following are the total fines collected from moving and parking violations, and court costs associated with those violations.
2012 - $5,648,850
2011 - $5,780,767
2010 - $6,186,325
“Typically speeding is going to be highest volume of violations we receive. Moving violations overall have declined over the last several years,” said Donte Martin, Municipal Court Administrator for the City of Wichita.
In 2012, Wichita Police officers issued 65,292 moving violations. The number is less than in 2011 when 68,971 moving violations were issued.
“The primary purpose is a penalty for violating the city code. It's also an effort to help improve traffic safety,” said Martin.
The fines are deposited into the City's General Fund, which helps pay for a variety of city services, from police and courts, to Parks and Public Works.
