It's a movie theater makeover as renovations are complete at the Pink Palace in West Wichita. Among the changes are cheaper movie tickets.
The Palace has been in business since 1989, offering discount prices on movies that aren't quite out on home video.
Lots of changes have been made to the Palace Theater near Kellogg and Ridge Road. The Palace is part of the Warren Theater Group and it now offers new chairs, bigger screens, better projectors, and best of all... cheaper prices on Tuesdays.
"There is new seating, new carpeting, the walls... everything's been totally redone," said Bill Warren, President of Warren Theaters. "New concessions, new projection equipment... We totally made this brand new."
The pink Palace has been a staple of West Wichita for almost 22 years. When it first opened, Warren offered $1.00 movie tickets. Now he's scaling back the price to a dollar every Tuesday, calling it "time-warp Tuesdays."
"We're a discount house on regular times, but we're going to go back to charging a dollar (on Tuesdays)," Warren said. "which simply means a mother and her husband and her four children can come to this movie for $6.00. You can't get a better bargain than that."
Just about everything in the building has been revamped, including the seats, the screens, the projectors and the concession stand.
"We now have six channel digital sound available in all auditoriums as well as brighter images because we've upgraded our lamphouses in the projection booth," explained Bill Menke, Warren Theaters Vice President.
"So we have digital sound that is attached to the 35 millimeter film presentations that we have here," Menke said. "It's of the same quality that we have in all of our Warren luxury theaters."
In addition, all of the foam seats from the luxury Warren theaters have now been installed at the Palace. They also include drink holders on every chair.
"A lot of people, when they remodel something, they just paint the front doors and claim they remodeled," Warren said. "But as you can tell, we decided to make this brand new inside and out."
The renovations to the Palace cost about a million dollars. The dollar movie tickets are only on Tuesdays. Movie prices the rest of the week are $3.00.
