On line Viewers Keep An Eagle Eye On Nest

March 31, 2011

One mother-to-be is getting 24 hour attention on line.

A live eagle cam in Iowa is streaming on the internet 24 hours a day.

The camera is focused on a nest in Decorah, Iowa. The first of three eggs inside the eagle's nest is expected to hatch any day now. At any given moment, tens of thousands of people are glued to their computers watching the eagle family.

The male and female eagles take turns incubating the eggs.

The group Raptor Research Project has had a camera focused on this eagle family for five years, they've only been streaming for the past few years. Last fall, they upgraded to two higher-quality cameras and a better live feed.

Wildlife experts are planning to put a tracking device on one of the babies, so they can study where it goes after it leaves the nest.
