Neighbors in a quiet southwest Wichita subdivision are stunned as they learn 5 people, including 2 children were shot early this morning.

Police woke residents in the 2300 block of south Stoneybrook around 3:30 a.m. Thursday to find out if they heard of saw anything. Investigators said a 36-year-old man kicked in the door to his ex-girlfriend's house, gunned her down, her mother and her 6 and 9 year-old daughters. He then turned the gun on himself. The 6-year-old and the gunman both died. The others are at the hospital.

Neighbors said the woman was raising her girls alone. They often saw the two riding their bikes up and down the quiet streets.

"They're just innocent little girls," said neighbor Ressa Ralph.

Police said the man and woman had recently taken the kids to Disneyland, but have since broken up. The woman's husband died about 6 years ago in a car accident.

Neighbors said she spoke a little English, but mostly Spanish. They said she was very sweet and they never saw any trouble at the house.
