"We were hoping for a boy and a little girl, so we got our wish. We're really happy," said Teresa Uhrich, mother of newborn twins.
Teresa and Matt Uhrich welcomed a set of twins on Tuesday, bringing the total number of twin births to 37 at Wesley Medical Center.
"It was just kind of surprising. It's an interesting statistic. And that we're part of that," said the Uhrichs.
The Uhrichs were looking forward to having a set of twins after going to a fertility specialist that helped several of their friends have twins.
"For the first sono, the nurse only seen one child. Actually, I was kind of disappointed 'cause I really wanted twins" said Matt Uhrich. "And another nurse came in and found the other twin in there."
The number of twin births doubled since last April where seven sets were born compared to 15 so far this month. And in all of 2010, only one set of triplets were born compared to two so far this year.
"Couple of weeks ago had a set of well baby triplets that stayed in the room with mom and I've never taken care of well baby triplets so that was real fun too," said Nancy Watkins, registered nurse.
Parents of twins say they've already started experiencing the challenges of raising not one but two babies at the same time.
"I have been really busy. Even though I got a lot of help from my mother-in-law and from the nurses here, but I can tell you, it's tiring," said Teresa Uhrich.
