Former Boxing Champ Morrison Jailed In Wichita

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Tommy Morrison appeared in Sedgwick County District Court this afternoon where he was charged with drug offenses.

Morrison was charged with felony possession of controlled substances and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia for use. His bond is set at $50,000.

Morrison, 42, was booked into Sedgwick County Jail Wednesday afternoon.

He was arrested in March 4, 2010 in Wichita for possession of marijuana. He had a prior conviction under a similar offense in South Dakota back in 2005.

Morrison was planning to open a boxing gym in South Wichita. In 2009, he planned on opening a ranch in Maize for seriously ill children.

Morrison, nicknamed "the Duke," defeated George Foreman in 1993 to win the WBO heavyweight title. He also starred in the movie "Rocky V".
