Having a child with an ear infection can be miserable. It’s hard for them to sleep, eat, or even play. Ear infections are awful—and babies can’t even tell you their ear hurts.

Why do some kids get so many ear infections, and how do you prevent them?

Here are some signs parents should look out for:
Babies usually don’t want to eat, can’t sleep, they cry and get fussy, and will pull at their ears. Ear infections are usually caused by bacteria, but can also be caused by a virus.

Pediatrician Dr. Rebecca Reddy from Wesley Medical Center says that ear infections are common in babies, but can also lead to bigger problems.

So how can you help prevent your baby from getting ear infections? First, keep your baby up to date on his vaccines. Next, breastfeed your baby for a minimum of six months. Finally, limit your baby’s exposure to tobacco smoke.
