We've heard the tragic stories over and over, a little baby won't stop crying and an adult starts shaking the baby in frustration. Sometimes shaking the baby to death.
Pediatricians see first hand the devastating affects of baby shaken syndrome. In most cases it's usually an adult who loses control and shakes the baby or slams the baby against an object.
If the baby survives the trauma, he brain damage can last a lifetime.
Parents need to learn how to handle the stress of a crying baby before they snap, and really it's quite simple. Just put the baby down, according to Dr. Katherine Melhorn.
Here are some of the symptoms of shaken baby syndrome:
- Altered state consciousness
- The child could even go into a coma and die
