A car accident near the town of Sedgwick has claimed the life of 14-year-old Jessica Davis. It happened just after 10 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of SW 96th and Hoover Rd., just inside Harvey County.

Early reports indicate that the driver, 15-year-old Sarah Stephenson lost control and struck a tree. The vehicle then flipped over and burst into flames.

Emergency crews arrived to find the vehicle engulfed and could tell that Davis was trapped inside. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stephenson was taken to a Wichita hospital with potentially serious injuries.

Davis was a freshman at Sedgwick High School. The school is on spring break this week. Counselors will be available at the high school from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, and again next week.
