A semi truck driver was forced to bolt from his vehicle overnight when a mattress set his brakes on fire.
Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Mai said the truck driver ran over the box spring mattress shortly before 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-135 in between Lincoln and Harry. The friction caused the semi truck's brakes to catch fire.
Emergency crews quickly shut down I-135 in the immediate area over concern the fire could spread. The truck was hauling corn oil, which could have fueled the blaze; however, the fire was quickly extinguished. The driver was not hurt.
