A Reno County judge today increased the bond for a man held in connection with the death of his wife.
Police say they found the body of Sabrina Jones, 30, inside her apartment in the 3200 block of Garden Grove early Christmas morning. Capt. Troy Hoover says police were responding to a caller who asked they check on Jones' well being.
Around 4:30 Christmas morning, police arrested Sabrina's husband, 30 year-old Stephen W. Jones. Hoover says he was taken into custody without incident at a family member's house in Hutchinson's Careyville area.
Jones is currently being held in the Reno County Jail on suspicion of first degree murder. A judge today raised Stephen Jones' bond from $500,000 to $1 million.
An autopsy on Sabrina Jones was peformed Friday. Investigators are not releasing many details in the crime, including the specifics surrounding Jones' death.
"We want to protect the integrity of the case," said Hoover.
Authorities say releasing potentially sensitive information too soon could jeopardize their investigation. They would not say how Jones died or why her husband is the suspect.
"This is a tragedy," Hoover said, "And it is made even worse by the fact that it happened on Christmas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families."
Sabrina Jones' mother tells KAKE News her daughter has three young children. They were staying with their biological father overnight, and not home when she died. Funeral arrangments are pending.
