Day three for crews saw big progress on the Tutwiler's new home in Chapman.
ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is shooting a special two-hour episode in Chapman. The Tutwiler family was chosen after Patrick Tutwiler, an Iraq War veteran, was shot while on his tour of duty overseas. He returned home with a tramautic brain injury, memory loss, speech problems, and post tramautic stress disorder.
Less than a year later, his family home was destroyed in the June 11th Chapman tornado.
The Tutwiler's were surprised by the Extreme Makeover crew Tuesday morning. For the next few days, they're on an all-expense paid Disney Cruise to the Bahamas.
Meantime, their friends and neighbors get a front row seat to the big surprise. Hundreds of volunteers are flanked daily by onlookers, marveling at the speed of construction.
"We try to do everything in 106 hours," says designer Rob Hillis. "Everything around here happens really fast."
Thursday morning, volunteers finished pouring a fast-curing concrete for the home's new foundation. By lunch time, the first walls were going up. The home is scheduled for completion and a grand unveiling when the Tutwiler's come home on November 18th.
ABC has not decided when the Chapman episode of Extreme Makeover will air, but says it should be in January or Febuary of 2009.
