Winfield investigators say three teenagers have been arrested in connection with Monday night's devastating fire at the Island Park playground.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested for suspicion of arson, while a 17-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl were arrested for obstructing the legal process. All three have been released to their parents.
Investigators did take the investigation to the Winfield High School campus on Wednesday.
One of the teens is accused of setting small materials on fire on the playground. The flames spread quickly. Police said the teens left the area without calling 911. Investigators believe if emergency crews had been called, the damage to the playground would have been limited.
Police said reports that the fire had anything to do with the upcoming Ark City-Winfield football game were nothing more than rumors.
The playground was constructed by volunteers in 2004. It was insured for more than 200,000 dollars. No word yet on plans to rebuild the playground.
