He's one of the oldest living World War II veteran in the state of Kansas and Sunday he turned 100 years old.

Don Revert's daughter tells us a few months ago she posted her dad's birthday party date on a few veterans' websites. She says she got birthday cards from around the country and offers from a few local groups to make the World War II vet's birthday a memorable one.

Revert's milestone birthday bash included all of the usual birthday party highlights like cake and a chorus of “Happy Birthday.”

“It's a great party,” Don Revert said.

But this party was about more than just celebrating Revert's long life.
It was about honoring everything he's done during it.

When he was 31, Don Revert was drafted into the Army in the middle of World War II. He first served in Europe, then the Philippines.

“I was shot at but I never got hit. So I said God is with me. He was with me all the way,” Revert said.

When the war ended in 1945 Revert came home. He says as soon as he was back in the states, his first wife served him with divorce papers.

“Boy you think that wasn't a shock, but it was the best thing that ever happened. I got to marry the lady I wanted to marry in the first place,” Revert said.

Revert was married to Emelyn for more than 50 years. She died about 10 years ago.

The couple has one daughter who followed in her father's footsteps.

“I walked in one day and I go 'I’ve joined the Army' and he goes 'What?'” Revert's daughter Mary Lou Early said.

Early tells us she was thrilled with the turnout at her dad's birthday celebration. She counted more than one hundred people who came out just to shake Don's hand and thank him for his service in World War II.

'I came back alive and I’m still alive,” Revert said.

At Sunday's party, guests were asked to donate money to the Honor Flight Network in Kansas. Revert took an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Last month. It costs about $650 for each veteran's flight.
