The Shockers are heading to Atlanta and so are plenty of their fans.
Flights and hotel rooms are filling up fast as Shocker fans make plans to cheer on WSU in Atlanta on Friday.
At 8:30 Saturday night, the WSU Alumni Association put all of their Atlanta travel packages online. Fans could choose to fly on one of the three charter flights or make their own way there and just book a hotel room. But by four this afternoon, all of the travel packages were completely sold out.
Frank DeSocio bleeds black and yellow. He went to Wichita State University from 1976-1980.
"I was the Wu Shock in 1979 and 1980,” DeSocio said.
He says there's no way he's going to miss seeing WSU play in the Final Four. In fact, his flight to Atlanta was booked before the game against Ohio State was even over.
"I'm going. I mean how do you miss this? If you're a Wichita State fan how do you miss this?” DeSocio said.
A lot of shocker fans feel the same. The WSU Alumni Association's phone has been ringing off the hook with people trying to book their trip to Georgia.
The Alumni Association booked three charter flights to Atlanta and in less than 24 hours, all three flights sold out.
"We're going to have a great showing. We're going to have a very good showing of Shocker fans down there,” WSU Alumni Association President/CEO Debbie Kennedy said.
Kennedy says the fan excitement has been growing steadily since the beginning of the tournament.
For Salt Lake City, the alumni group had to cancel their charter flight because they couldn’t fill it. That wasn't a problem for their LA flight, which sold out right away. And now, they're looking into possibly getting a fourth plane to Atlanta.
"It's growing, growing, growing, but you know as you advance in the tournament you have to be there. You want to say you were there on that day,” Kennedy said.
