Monday, Wichita is expected to hit 90 degrees for the first time this year. The last time it took this long to get that hot was 20 years ago.
"It's been absolutely wonderful we're from Iowa so we like the cooler weather, I don't care for the hundred degree days,” Wichita resident Erin Head said.
It may still be spring according the calendar but it's about to feel like summer. Monday will mark the first time this year Wichita has hit 90 degrees.
"We're going to temperatures in western Kansas well into the triple digits, I wouldn't be surprised to see 104, 105 degrees as we go into next week and so summer is definitely here,” KAKE First Alert meteorologist Tanner Swift said.
This cool weather is unusual for this time of year. In fact, it hasn't taken this long to reach 90 degrees in Wichita since June 13th, 1993.
"Last year we saw 90 degrees in May several times and we're well into June and haven’t' seen 90 degrees until probably tomorrow,” Swift said.
Spring may have not stuck around for very long but with memories of snow storms still fresh in their minds, some people we spoke with say they're ready for summer.
"I complain about the cold so I don't allow myself to complain about the heat. So, I think I'm ready,” Wichita resident Jodi Francis said.
