A mother, who lost her life when she was shot to death by her husband, was remembered Sunday night with a candlelight vigil.
Antonia Kratic was known as Baby Sister. She was a 32-year-old mother of nine children, ages 2 to 17, and a mother who friends say would do anything for her family.
"She was very involved with her children, and she was involved with her kids' sports and their school. She was a good mother," said Marvil Swinton, friend.
Just after noon Saturday, three of Kratic's children were at the house she lived in with her husband near 13th and Grove.
Police say her husband shot her in the abdomen and the head, and left her in the street. The children witnessed the incident and ran to neighbors for help.
"I did see a lady laying in the middle of the street with no life, and all the kids kept saying was could you call the police and help my mother. I was in shock and it hurts to see something like that," said Sophia Thomas-Pressley, witness.
This is not the first time tragedy has struck the family. Friends say eleven years ago, almost to the day, Kratic witnessed her mother being shot to death the same way.
"It's tragic to see these kids lose their mom like they did, and we as Wichita, we need to come together and help out, because with nine children, we don't want to see them get split up, and we want to make sure they're very taken care of," said Dorothy Abbott, Minister at Kingdom Harvest Church.
With the holidays around the corner, friends especially hope the nine children are taken care of.
"She was a very happy-go-lucky person, and she loved her children very much, and they loved her too," said Swinton.
