Wichita Police said Monday it was, in fact, an officer who shot and killed an armed man near 2nd & Mosley early Saturday. Police have identified the shooting victim as Marquez Smart, 23.

Police said more than a thousand people were being let out of a concert when Smart began firing rounds from a large caliber handgun into the crowd. Chief Norman Williams said Smart was confronted by officers at the parking garage in the 200 block of N. Mosley. Officers shot Smart once due to his threatening nature.

Smart then ran south, ignoring repeated commands to drop his handgun. Officer caught up with him and shot him a second time, fatally wounding him.

Four other people were injured. A 29-year-old man and three females ages 17, 18 & 19, but Williams could not confirm whose bullets injured those other four victims.

One person is dead following a shooting at 2nd and Mosley streets in Old Town early Saturday morning.

Wichita Police Lt. Scott Heimerman said that at 2 a.m. Saturday morning, officers were assisting as clubs were closing.

"Shots fired were coming from a large group that was in the middle of the street, just down the street from Second Street. Officers that were here, helping clear the crowd, saw an individual with a handgun, and they pursued after him," said Heimerman.

Three others were shot. No names have been released and the conditions of the survivors are not known. Police have not confirmed or denied if the suspect is the one who died.
