A man broke into a liquor store Saturday by cutting through the roof.

It happened just before 3:30 Saturday morning. The owner of Lamar’s Liquor Stop tells us the guy used a saw to cut a three by three foot hole in their roof and then crawled in through the ceiling.

When she got the call from the security company and came out to the store, she says the burglar was on top of the building.

"My husband heard it first, he said, 'Did you hear that?' And the police officer said, 'Yeah that sounded like footsteps.' So at that time the police officer called for backup," owner, Martha Riggs said.

Police surrounded the building and called out the fire department with their ladders. Police say the 20 year old man jumped off the building and tried to run away but officers arrested him a short distance away and took him into custody.
