An 8-year-old girl was left alone at a bus stop after getting on the wrong bus after school.

"For someone her age, her size, to be left alone, to me, that's crazy. That's insane," said Jason Reevey, grandfather of Taya Sanders.

Last Thursday, Reevey's granddaughter got on the wrong bus.

In the morning, the second-grade student rides the bus from her home in Northeast Wichita to Horace Mann Elementary School. After school, Taya rides the bus to her grandparents' home in Southwest Wichita.

When the second-grade student realized she was on the wrong bus, she alerted the bus driver and asked to call her grandfather.

On the phone, the grandfather was told that Taya was to get off the bus and wait for him by herself.

"I was furious but I didn't know if she was scared," said Reevey.

School officials with USD 259 said there is an investigation underway. The policy is for bus drivers to call dispatch to alert them of a student getting on the wrong bus. The driver is to take the student back to the school or to the right stop after completing their route.
