Wichita Police said a dispute over a dog led to the city's latest homicide over the weekend. John Tolliver, 47, was found dead in his apartment in the 1400 block of North Kansas early Sunday. The victim's roommate called Sedgwick County 911 dispatchers when he returned home from work at about 3:00 AM Sunday and found the man dead on the floor.

An investigation led police to Tolliver's ex-girlfriend who had been in a dispute with the victim over a dog, according to Lt. Ken Landwehr. The ex-girlfriend wanted to get her dog back from Tolliver, so she and two other men burglarized his home Saturday night and took the dog, police said.

"I think that is really ridiculous," said neighbor Alisa Harris. "I mean, people die for stuff they can't help and then to die over a dog? Are you serious?"

When Tolliver got home and found the dog missing, he sent the woman a series of angry text messages, police said. Authorities believe the two male suspects returned to the home and beat him.

Tolliver's ex-girlfriend and two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and felony murder even though police say the woman was not present when Tolliver was killed. the district attorney will decide on formal charges by the end of the week.
