Cool February temperatures did not stop volunteers from making speedy progress on the Extreme Makeover house in West Wichita. The home is being built to provide a wheelchair accessible home for Carl Hall and his family.
In fact, according to Bob Cook of Bob Cook Homes, they are about five hours ahead of schedule.
"By tomorrow night site work will all be done, concrete will all be poured. We'll just be doing the final stuff finishing this house up, " Builder and Project Supervisor Bob Cook said. "Wednesday we're going to be polishing and getting ready for furniture."
While Carl and his family are in Orlando on vacation, the couple's parents are keeping an eye on the build and keeping tabs on the generosity flowing from the community.
"We've said thank you so much, but that's the only word we can come up with," Jack Hall, Carl Hall's father, said. "I don't know any other way to say it except how much we appreciate it, and I know Carl and Stacey appreciate it. Really. Really. It's just overwhelmed us."
Especially knowing the home Carl and his family will be returning to will allow Carl a lot more freedom and opportunities.
"To say the least he is going to be amazed when he comes home. It is going to put him at a level of living way beyond anything that would have happened if these folks hadn't come on board and made this happen for him," Cook said.
"I'll probably tear up again just like I did the first three months after the injury," Jack Hall added.
There is still a lot of work to be done on the house. The building crew is asking that on Monday trim carpenters and drywall finishers report to the site and check in all day.
Wallpaper hangers should report to the site at midnight Tuesday. And if you are a closet installer you should be at the build site by Tuesday morning.
The big reveal is scheduled for Thursday afternoon sometime between about 2 pm and 4 pm. If you are free and want to come out to see Carl Hall and his family see their new home for the first time, that's when you need to be here.
