Wichita teachers rallied together before a board of education meeting Monday night.
Some of the educators that waved signs outside North High school tell us they feel under appreciated.
Many of them told said they believe it's time to give teachers a raise for the first time in four years.
Others say they feel like they have been left out of contract negotiations.
“Gives teachers the chance to say look don't take negotiations behind closed doors, we'd be there if we could keep them open let us see what's going to happen to our future,” one teacher told us.
Board members addressed speakers at the meeting and spoke with us afterward and said they are listening to teachers. They say they are doing the best they can and the board and educators need to work with each other, not against each other.
Superintendent John Allison gave a first look at a possible budget for the upcoming school year and it appears raises for all employees in the school district is at least up for discussion.
There are several meetings planned to discuss the budget this school year before a final approval in August.
