Several traffic tie-ups caused by slick roads and drivers following too close behind other vehicles.
One accident occurred when a vehicle was not able to stop in time for a bus that had to stop at a railroad crossing. No students were in the school bus during the fender bender.
"I would encourage people to leave early, drive slow, give themselves plenty of time to stop," said Sgt. Wayne Ruffner, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department. "People have to remember that on snow and ice, you can't stop like you can on dry pavement."
Traffic was backed up at several intersections this morning causing many delays.
"The streets are kind of slick because the cement was warm. But if people just go slow and take their time and be careful, I think it'll be just fine," said Cherlyn Thorpe, Wichita resident.
Crews worked all day to plow away snow packed parking lots and streets around town.
"It's been a mess. Snow's powdery. It doesn't push very easy. People are forgetting how to drive," said Joseph Adams, who plowed several parking lots today.
