Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer would like to thank the community for their well wishes after he was admitted to the hospital for chest pains last week.
The mayor went to a local hospital after Tuesday's city council meeting. He was treated for acid reflux and released Friday afternoon.
In a news conference Monday morning, the mayor said the incident was a wake up call.
"I think it's a wake up call. They tell you anytime you have chest pains, consult your physician. Something as simple as acid reflux, there's something that's going wrong, so it's good to have it checked out," said Brewer.
Brewer's doctors recommend that he make changes to his lifestyle, including exercising, eating healthier, and cutting some work hours.
The mayor said he sometimes has 7 a.m. breakfast meetings, gets home about 8 or 9 p.m., and continues working until 2 or 3 a.m.
"If all of us would stop and think about our diets, how much exercise we're getting, how much stress we're under, probably a lot of us would need to make changes," said Janet Miller, city council member.
