Derby Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with an assault and rape, but they are stopping short of calling the man a suspect.
Police said they answered a disturbance call early this morning in the 500 block of West Mahoney on the northwest side of Derby just before 5:00 AM. Officers found a scene where an aggravated and sexual assault happened. A woman was arrested after a short chase, but 30 year-old Patrick T. Stewart got away.
Stewart is described as a 30 year-old white male with blond hair and blue eyes. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs appx. 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing bluejeans, a black shirt, black boots and a plaid golf cap.
Police Lieutenant Tim Brant says two other witnesses were inside the home when the assault happened. The two female victims are believed to be 44 and 18 years-old.
Shortly after the assault a green 1999 Dodge Caravan was stolen. The van has a Kansas license tag of 465 BDK and a "KU" tag on the front. It also had an NHRA bumper sticker on the back. "For Sale" was written on the windows.
If Stewart or the vehicle is seen, citizens are urged to call 911 immediately.
