Two massage therapy businesses are teaming up to honor gift certificates sold for the out-of-business, Massage Junkie.
Susan Looney of Body Wellness in Derby and Alicia Dale of Dynamic Bodyworks in West Wichita are going to honor gift certificates purchased for Massage Junkie until Dec. 31.
"We're trying to be proactive about this and make it a right instead of a wrong. We're willing to partner up with another business and accept the gift certificates that Massage Junkie sold and kind of took off with the money," said Looney.
The Massage Junkie website advertised gift certificates and a price structure. After this report aired on KAKE, the business website changed to say the business is closed.

A local massage business in East Wichita appears to be out of business after customers spent hundreds of dollars on gift certificates. The business called Massage Junkie at the office park at 9390 East Central was certainly closed when KAKE News inspected it on Sunday.
"I went to massage junkie for years and years," said former customer Brady Barnard.
Barnard was quite surprised to find the business dark after she and others had just spent a lot of money on gift certificates.
"It was always wonderful. I never had problems," Barnard explained. "They were always there, very professional, very inviting. It was a very comforting atmosphere."
A number of people tell us they were happy with the services that massage junkie gave them, but on Sunday, the business was locked tight. A 'for sale' sign was in the window and the office was completely vacant.
"My concern is because they had done so many gift certificate pushes right before this," Barnard said. "There are a lot of people really upset because they did just have a buy one get one free and buy four get one free. They're also still selling gift certificates on their website."
Barnard had turned a lot of her own friends on to the business. In turn, they spent hundreds of dollars, as well. The business website still advertises gift certificates and a price structure. After this report aired on KAKE, the business website changed to say the business is closed.
"I feel like a chump," Barnard said. "They spent a lot of their hard earned money buying gift certificates and they're giving them out as client gifts and now the clients are coming back to them and they're coming back to me and saying 'What's going on?'"
A nearby tenant in the office building told us that Massage Junkie moved in early 2011, but was only in business for a few months before everything abruptly disappeared. Our attempts to contact the owner of the business have all failed.
