A large crowd gathered this morning for the 55th annual Memorial Day program at Resthaven Cemetery in West Wichita.
"It's been supported so well through all the years that we know it's important to all the people that come out," said Mark Hansen, general manager at Resthaven.
Hansen estimates that nearly a thousand people attended the event.
The program included a flyover salute, bagpipers playing "Amazing Grace," and remarks from U.S. Representative Mike Pompeo.
"It's great to be out at Resthaven where we have lots of folks who come out to remember the amazing men and women who have given their lives for our country," said Pompeo.
People of all ages also paid tribute to their loved ones by decorating their graves.
Many cemetery staff are reminding family and friends to remove additional decorations by Sunday.
