An injured Hutchinson Marine is honored in the annual 4th of July parade in Hutchinson. Twenty-two year-old Marine Corporal Kenny Kalish led the 4th of July parade down main street this morning as the grand marshal.
Cpl. Kalish lost both legs and his left arm when he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan in April. Cpl. Kalish was home for the first time since the accident. "There's no words to express my feelings," said Hutchinson resident Terry Hanson. "He gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. I'm just grateful and thankful that there are men and women who are willing to do that."
Cpl. Kalish thanked everyone for their support, throwing candy to the kids during the parade and waving. "It's just awesome, having all this support. It's a big thing," he said. The Marine is going back to San Antonio Tuesday for more medical treatment. He hopes to be walking with the help of prosthetic legs by the end of the month.
